Summary of the project 'Promoting Garden Tourism in Normandy & Sussex'
Promoting Tourism
gardensnormandysussex.com is part of a wider project aimed at increasing tourism to gardens within Normandy and Sussex, and for the first time presents the two regions together to the global tourist market.
Both regions are renowned for their gardens and have excellent transport links, and alongside this website, they are being represented at Courson garden show in France, Beervelde garden show in Belgium, and Chelsea Flower Show in the UK.
Print materials will also be available soon for download.
Tourism to the region is also being encouraged and promoted through press liaison and is attracting coverage in local, national and European press and TV.
Exchanging Ideas
The project is also about creating links and facilitating exchanges of ideas and good practise between garden owners within the two regions.
Garden owners from Normandy have visited Sussex this year giving them the opportunity to find out about how gardens operate in the UK as there is much to be learned from the business practise of Sussex garden owners. For example; the use of volunteers, running events, and creating links with educational outlets.
The way that UK gardens are structured and supported also varies from Normandy i.e. links with organisations like National Trust, funding from bodies like Heritage Lottery Funding.
Sussex garden owners will also be visiting Normandy next year to find out about practise and ways to market your garden, along with the opportunity to twin with a garden that may have similarities.
The project is running from March 2005 to February 2007, and is kindly being supported by:
European Union Interreg IIIA
